Eletrobras Distribuição Piauí completed the works of the Program of Rural Electrification Universalization in the cities of Alagoinha do Piauí and Pio IX, benefiting 629 families that leave in rural areas of the state. Altogether, it was invested R$ 3.3 million in the construction of 217.75 km of electric network, in the implementation of 1.845 electric poles and installation of 157 transformers.
In the city of Alagoinha of Piauí, located at 379 km from Teresina, the program took electric power to inhabitants of Baixa da Areia, Barra do Olho D’água, Vaquejador, Riacho dos Bois, Morro do Tonico and Serra do Travessão communities. In all over the city, about 2.690 people have already been met. In Serra Velha, Pilões, Jatobá, Serra do Cajueiro, Jurema, Caiçarinha, Malhada Bonita, Inharé and Piranhas communities, the works must be completed within 60 days.
In Pio IX, city located at 440 kilometers from the capital, the program supported 502 families - about 2.510 people - of Recreio, Odilândia, Guaribas, Caldeirão do Davi and Serra da Baraúna communities. Since 2003, around five thousand people were benefited in the whole county. The goal is to complete the remaining connections until December 2010.
During the event of official delivery of the works, the assistant of the Presidency of Eletrobras Distribuição Piauí, José Salan Melo, highlighted the importance of investments to take electric power to all communities of the state. "The program is for everyone, nobody can be out of it. Therefore, each one of the beneficiaries must inform the Manager Committee if there are families still not supported. Electric power is essential to health, education, safety and leisure, besides generating employment and income for the entire country," he said.
The mayor of Alagoinha do Piauí, Clodoaldo Rocha, praised the work of the technicians of the company. "Formerly, say that the energy would be deployed in rural areas was reason for mockery. People could not believe, but today we can see that the electric power is part of the reality of the inhabitant of rural areas of Alagoinha do Piauí" he said. But the mayor of Pio IX, Raimundo Nonato, made a retrospective of the campaign of rural communities for the arrival of electric power. "Formerly, they used to promise that the energy would come, they prepared the land, our hope was growing, but the energy was not coming. But today, we can see that the rural electrification is a real fact in Pio IX. "
